Hi there,

Your news is never one story.

A funding round is a business story, a hiring story, and a market story. Three angles, three different sets of reporters, three chances at coverage. Pitch it as one and you leave the other two on the table.

I didn't come up with that. Carly Martinetti [wrote it](https://www.linkedin.com/posts/prcarly_most-agencies-pitch-one-story-to-one-publication-share-7376261574522617856-IJG6/) on LinkedIn last October - same core story, same subject matter expert, four different coverage opportunities. She has built media lists for fourteen years.

I read it at the time and did nothing with it.

Until three weeks ago she became our advisor and we published our first Carly Score where she graded our AI against her own lists. Her first mark showed me exactly what I'd missed: she had 43 journalists on her list. Our AI found 7 of them.

So this week we built her thinking into the product. Two big things shipped:

## 1. Angles - your news is not one story

When you bring us news, we now break it into several distinct story angles instead of one, and each angle is written the way the reporter who covers that beat would want to hear it.

Each angle goes after its own set of journalists. You see the angles before anything runs - chat with the plan, tell it what you actually want, refine it before the AI builds your list.

## 2. Deep Dive Agents - the search terms you'd never type

Once you've settled the angles, one dedicated research agent goes to work on each one.

It doesn't run a search. It researches: reads what it finds, decides what to look up next based on what it just read, and keeps pulling that thread until the thread runs out. It's what a good researcher does with three spare days and no interruptions.

Four of them run at once, one per angle.

Here's an example:

I took Carly's "biometric authentication announcement" example for a real run, here's what one deep dive agent did:

- Started with the fraud prevention angle

- Added 5 journalists

- searched "injection attack"

- Added 8 journalists

- searched "voice cloning fraud scam"

- Found FBI's $262M account takeover fraud alert

- Added 9 journalists who covered that report

- Keeped searching for "credential surfing attack"

- ... (kept going for 8 minutes)

In total it added 32 good-fit journalists from the security angle. While the other 3 agents found 84 more across finance, HR and pop culture.

Angles and Deep Dive are available today to everyone on a paid plan. We're figuring out how to scale our capacity - this won't reach the free tier for a while.

A customer a few weeks ago said to me: "This tool got me a placement from a journalist I'd never have pitched myself.". This week Medialyst got better at exactly this - help you win more coverage on the same stories you're already running.

## The Carly Score

This week's Carly Score is 51.3 out of 100, up 9.1 from 42.2 on Aug 13.

She had 43 journalists on her list. This week's introduction of angles and deep dive agents helped us find 17 of them, up from just 7.

The email accuracy held at 15 / 17 (88%), [last week's overhaul on our media database](https://medialyst.ai/blog/carly-score-week-2) already covered the right contact for most of our journalist.

Finding the rest requires a new class of capabilities for the agents. More soon.
